We are excited to introduce you to an innovative journey where education meets play, brought to life through an Erasmus KA2 Small Scale Partnership in School Education. The ENIGMA project is led by a dedicated team of professionals, including Dr. Flavia Santos, Dr. Erika Galea, and Mr. Nikolaus Conrad, who are passionate about transforming the way school students engage with mathematics.
At the heart of the ENIGMA project is our commitment to exploring the effectiveness of gamification approaches in mathematics games. Our goal is to provide valuable insights that will not only enhance the development of educational materials and instructional strategies but also significantly improve student engagement, motivation, and learning outcomes in mathematics.
The findings from this project will serve as a cornerstone for teachers, game developers, and educational institutions, guiding them in creating effective and engaging gamified maths games tailored for school students. We believe that by integrating gamification into educational practices, we can discover new possibilities for learning and make mathematics a thrilling adventure for students.
Join us on this exciting journey to reshape the future of mathematics education. Together, we can make a difference in how children perceive and excel in mathematics, turning challenges into opportunities for growth and discovery.
ENIGMA is a collaboration between the University College Dublin in Ireland, and Headstart Technology Limited in Malta.

Introducing Educators to Educational Neuroscience, and how games - particularly those for mathematics - affect the brain
The project will design an e-learning course to introduce educators to the field of educational neuroscience, focusing on how games can support math learning. Through this course educators will have a better understanding of WHY and HOW games can be a valuable tool in maths education.
Comparing different approaches to Gamification and Game Based Learning in Games for Mathematics
The project will review and analyze how some leading games for mathematics implement gamification and game based learning concepts. This will provide educators with a better understanding of how different approaches may provide different results for diverse students.
